From another potential statistic to “Another Classic” – Kedar “Jiggsaw” Anthony has been building and branding himself into an all-around entertainer. Originally from New Jersey, the Columbus, Ga. based performer has come quite far to make a positive name for himself.
“I was a totally different person when I was up there. I was just angry all the time,” Anthony recalls. It is understandable considering his background. He didn’t have stability at all, constantly moving from place to place with friends. He didn’t have a lot of support from family. He hardly knew his father whom he met for the first time when he was 15. He was a man trying to survive, while staying on the right side of the law.
“While I was in Jersey, I was more of a dancer,” says Anthony. “I had done a few music videos as a background dancer and been to Music Matters in DC.”
Despite trying to stay out of trouble, it eventually found him. “One day, I got arrested by police because they thought I was involved in a murder that happened. When they found out it wasn’t me, they charged me simply with aggravated assault.”
It wasn’t until one summer when his uncle from Columbus came up looking for him. “He told me he didn’t like how I was living and he offered for me to come live down in Georgia. It took a month before I decided to go through with it, because I didn’t want to leave my friends or stop dancing, which I enjoyed doing.”
Because of the incident with police, Anthony decided he needed a different experience. “I needed to get away from Jersey, because if I didn’t, I’d end up in jail or worse.”
After getting charges against him dismissed, he immediately left for Georgia. “I left and didn’t even tell anybody. When I got here, I basically just started over with everything. I wanted to do something new and so I started making music and learning how to do every aspect of production from recording to making my own videos.”
For Anthony, it was all about putting the pieces together to create his sound and his brand. That’s how “Jiggsaw” came to be. “I do a bit of everything. I sing, I dance, I rap, I act, I’ve created and produced music and videos. I’m continually learning more and more things that I can do. So I basically fit every piece of the puzzle.”
It was this talent that caught attention of many in Jersey and Georgia. Since his start, he’s been invitedto perform as the opening act at concerts for Jadakiss and other artists, as well as parties and networking events.
“Germaine Moody contacted me three years ago to get me to perform at his pre-Grammy networking event in Atlanta. I turned him down because I wasn’t ready at the time. I wasn’t prepared and didn’t have money to get there. I don’t like playing people’s intelligence. If I don’t have it, I don’t have it. I’m not going to fake it.
“Two years later, he was still following me online and since I was still doing my music, he contacted me again to perform. I was in a better place financially and more ready to perform. I had won three competitions, opened for various events, so I was confident with what I can do.”
In 2016, Jiggsaw was one of the featured performers at the pre-Grammy networking event, with lyrically clean and fresh music that kept the audience moving. Opportunities don’t always come twice, but when you have the talent and motivation, people will notice and support your endeavors.
“I wouldn’t be able to do this without support. So many people have helped along the way. There’s a lady, Chastity Dillard, who I call my aunt. She’s done so much for me in my life and she’s not even my flesh and blood. If someone can share the kindness in their heart and can take care of you like you’re one of their kids, that says something special about that person’s character.”
For Anthony, the decision to move to Georgia was truly life changing. “Now that I know that there are better things in life, I don’t have to be so angry. I am living right, living the way that I want to.”
