As we've grown so have our tastes. Christmas quickly approaches and I'm certain Santa has already begun to receive wish lists in his mailbox and inbox. Unbeknownst to children, we as adults know these toys cost money. With the proper knowledge and a few memorable hints, knowing how to properly manage your funds will greatly alleviate the strain on your wallet/pocketbook during the holiday season.

(1)    Recognize

A budget is necessary in order to be a successful shopper navigating the big ON SALE signs and slashed prices.

(2)    Write

A detailed list of your gross monthly income, subtracting an average spent on bills and other necessities, leaving the amount of disposable income available for holiday shopping.

(3)    Realize

Your budget may not accommodate all the items you'd like to purchase for yourself or loved ones but there are items of comparable value and lower prices that can also suit your tastes, needs and/or wants.

(4)    Remember

The budget you've created is a safeguard against the high credit card bills and financial unrest left after the presents have been received and the holidays are behind you.

(5)    Resist

The urge to purchase an item or items that are not in your budget/list of gifts no matter how enticing the price or the sale sticker may seem.

Enjoy the season without overspending.
